Cohen pleads the fifth in Stormy Daniels' lawsuit

President Donald Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen says he's going to plead the fifth amendment. In a filing to an L.A. court on Wednesday, in regards to a lawsuit filed by porn star, Stormy Daniels, Cohen said he would assert his right under the U.S constitution to avoid self-incrimination. Daniels said she had an affair with Trump in 2006. Last month she sued both Trump and Cohen over a non-disclosure agreement and reported hush-money she received before the 2016 election. The 5th amendment states that no individual can be compelled to be a witness against themselves in a criminal case. By pleading the fifth, Cohen may find a way out of disclosing any information that could aid the criminal investigation of his business dealings. An FBI search of Cohen's office and home has already uncovered information - on the 130 000 dollars he'd allegedly paid Daniels as hush money. The raids began with a referral from Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Mueller's separately looking into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election along with any possible collusion from the Trump campaign. Lawyers for both Trump and Cohen meanwhile have requested a 90-day hold on Daniels' case. Last week US District Judge James Otero said he needed more time to review that request. Trump has denied both the affair and having any knowledge of the money.
